Post Considering Closing Its Modesto Plant

MODESTO (CBS13) - Food maker Post announced Thursday it is considering closing its manufacturing facility in Modesto.

The reason behind the possible closure is to "improve operational efficiency and to position the company for future growth," the company said in a press release.

The company says it will be working with the union representing it hourly employees before it makes its final decision to close, which will be made by the end of April 2013.

"We are committed to addressing our excess capacity," said Terence E. Block, President and Chief Operating Officer. "This initiative, if we proceed, would provide the increased efficiency necessary to compete in today's environment."

The plant employs about 140 workers. Post is probably best-known for its breakfast cereals.
