Police Have No Suspects In The Killing Of An Elk Grove Mother Inside Her Home

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Police are looking for the whoever killed a married mother of two in her Elk Grove home.

Marissa Pineda De Almanza, 37, was found dead in her Elk Grove apartment on Wednesday.

Neighbors like Geofonee Powells remember her as a great mom and she was very well liked by the community.

"She won't be able to see her daughter walk across the aisle; she won't be able to see her daughter graduate," she said.

It hasn't been easy for Powells to accept her neighbor's death.

"I was hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst," she said.

Geofonee says she knew Marissa through their children—they were mommy friends. She describes Marissa as a calm person. Always positive and upbeat. She also says Marissa was in the Air Force.

"She fights for us, she comes home, to the comfort of her own home. And she's taken away from her family," she said.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment Wednesday, but there were obvious signs of trauma to Marissa's body. People came by her apartment to drop off flowers and a candle. Her downstairs neighbor didn't want to be identified, but tells CBS13, Marissa was adored by the community.

Police say Marissa's husband is cooperating with the investigation. Neighbors are baffled, telling us they have no idea who could have killed her.

Police tell us they will be going through any surveillance footage they find in the area. But again at this time they say they don't have a suspect.
