Panhandlers Suspected Of Working Together In SoCal City

SANTA CLARITA (CBS) – Panhandlers spotted around Santa Clarita Valley appear to be working together to collect money.

They've been seen on street corners with signs claiming to be down and out.

But they may not be as needy as they look.

One woman told cameras she didn't have a car, but moments later, she was seen getting into one.

Then she was spotted down the street asking for money at a different location.

"It's almost to the point of being called a 'disorganized organization,' if you will," a police spokesperson said. "Where they probably sometimes [act] like any type of organized theft group, where they will coordinate with each other as to who's going to take what position and what spot."

Police believe many of them treat panhandling as a full-time job.
