Officers Shoot Man After North Highlands Chase
NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (CBS13) -- A suspect was shot after allegedly attempting to run down officers following a Sunday morning pursuit.
The California Highway Patrol said the 27-year-old driver of a white sedan failed to yield to a traffic stop just after 3:00 a.m. and sped away on North Highlands residential streets, reaching speeds of more than 50 miles per hour.
The suspect turned onto Palm Avenue, a dead end street, but when CHP officers and Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies tried to block the roadway, he rammed the police cruisers, authorities said.
Officers fired several rounds into the suspect's vehicle, wounding him. The man was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and evading police.
