Military Jet Blows Tires In Mather Landing
MATHER (CBS13) – A military jet blew its tires during a landing at Mather Airfield on Wednesday afternoon.
The T-38 Talon is from Beale Air Force Base in Yuba County. Two pilots were on board and were flying routine training "touch-and-gos" when the incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. One tire blew out on the landing and a second one did when crosswinds pushed the aircraft, according to a press release from Beale.
The pilots weren't injured. The runaway was blocked after the incident, blocking cargo planes from landing. Smaller aircraft were able to use a second runaway.
Beale safety and maintenance crews were sent out to Mather. The cause of the tire blowout is under investigation.
