Man Sentenced To Life For Rape, Murder Of 64-Year-Old Folsom Grandmother
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A man convicted last month of raping and killing a 64-year-old Folsom woman was sentenced on Friday to life without the possibility of parole.
Sylvester Griffin, 43, was sentenced to life by Sacramento Superior Court Judge Greta Curtis Fall in the 2009 killing of Alice Lynn Murphy.
Murphy lived alone at the Creekview Manor senior complex. A retired Realtor, mother and grandmother, Murphy was found dead in her bedroom by a friend a few days before Christmas.
Griffin was a driver for a medical transport company and had a customer in the complex. He beat and raped Murphy and then smothered her to death.
DNA evidence collected at the scene was a match to Griffin in the FBI DNA database. He was arrested at his mother's house in South Carolina in June 2010.
