SACRAMENTO COUNTY – Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that killed a man near Rancho Murieta Tuesday evening, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Highway 16 west of Murieta South Parkway.

The CHP said a man was driving an Acura RDX west and was approaching a Toyota Corolla heading east. The driver of the Acura veered into the eastbound lane and collided with the Corolla.

The Acura deflected off the car before colliding head-on with a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling behind the Corolla, killing the driver of the Acura.

The two other drivers sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Drunk driving is believed to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

The eastbound lane was blocked for about three hours.
