Man in Sacramento park tries kidnapping woman, dragging her nearly 100 feet
A woman walking in South Sacramento was attacked and dragged nearly 100 feet in an attempted kidnapping Saturday night, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.
Around 9 p.m., someone called authorities and reported seeing a man "hitting, pushing, and dragging a woman on the street" near Stockton Boulevard and Orange Avenue.
Deputies responded to the scene and found a man trying to drag a woman through a canal with his arm wrapped around her neck, the Sheriff's Office said.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the victim said she had never seen him before, and that she was walking through the park when he approached her.
She told deputies she was initially able to run away when he tried to grab her, but he caught up to her and grabbed her from behind, the Sheriff's Office said. He then tore part of her dress off and put his arms around her neck before dragging her nearly 100 feet, the Sheriff's Office said.
He was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, and the victim was rescued. The Sheriff's Office said she was not injured in the attack.
The suspect was identified by the Sheriff's Office as 40-year-old Mitchell Green. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
