Large Marijuana Grow Discovered Near El Dorado Hills

EL DORADO HILLS (CBS13) – A marijuana grower's unsightly attempts to cover up his crop contributed to the operation being uncovered, deputies say.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says they fielded a few complaints last week about a suspected marijuana grow along the 1400 block of Malcom Dixon Road. Callers told deputies that the tarps being used to try and hide the pot plants were just ugly.

Further, callers reported a strong, offensive smell coming from the grow.

Deputies showed up at the property on Friday and were met by a man with a shotgun. Deputies say the man, 52-year-old Jeffrey Johansen Sr., put the gun down and was arrested.

In total, about 200 marijuana plants that were ready to be harvested were found at the property. About 30 pounds of processed pot and evidence of a butane honey oil lab were also discovered.

Johansen and his son, 20-year-old Jeffrey Johansen II, have been arrested and are facing drug, weapons and theft of power charges.
