175 Pounds Of Marijuana Uncovered After Traffic Stop In Loomis
LOOMIS (CBS13) - A traffic stop in Loomis turned into a felony drug and weapons arrest after a Placer County sheriff's K-9 sniffed out a large load of marijuana.
A deputy stopped Thomas Franklin Williams, 51, of Calistoga on Interstate 80 near Horseshoe Bar at about 10 p.m. Tuesday for a vehicle code violation. Williams was found to be driving on a suspended license.
During a search, K-9 Okar immediately alerted on Williams' truck. Deputies found seven large boxes filled with processed and packaged marijuana totaling about 175 pounds inside the truck's camper.
Williams also had a loaded .44-caliber Ruger Redhawk handgun with a 10-inch barrel inside the cab.
He was booked at the Placer County Jail on felony charges of transportation, sales and possession of marijuana, carrying a loaded firearm with the intent to commit a felony and carrying a loaded and concealed firearm in a vehicle.
His bail was set at $60,000. He was arraigned Wednesday and remains in custody.
