Man believed to be hiking in American River Canyon near Auburn doesn't return home; search ongoing

A search for a man believed to be hiking in the American River Canyon near Auburn will resume Monday as officials say he hasn't been seen since Friday. 

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said investigators believe 24-year-old Ian Roberts parked at Overlook Park and hiked down into the American River Canyon on Friday. 

By Saturday morning, the Roseville Police Department received a missing person report for Roberts, as he did not return home the night before. Deputies said he was last seen at 9:45 a.m. Friday. 

Roberts' vehicle was found at the skate park at Overlook Park in Auburn.  

Search efforts for Roberts were conducted on Saturday and Sunday, including officials closing Overlook Park. Deputies said about 100 search and rescue personnel from multiple agencies searched the area. 

But Roberts remains missing as of Sunday evening and the search will resume Monday morning. 

Roberts was last seen wearing a brown t-shirt, dark shorts, gray shoes and possibly a beanie.
