Land Park Tree Fall Injures Two People
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Diana Antony has lived across the street from William Land Park for years, but Friday was different.
"It was massive. It just went right across the road," said Antony.
A massive branch from a park-planted eucalyptus tree came crashing down on a truck parked on the curb, but there was more.
"[My neighbor] was sitting outside on the lawn reading a newspaper," said Antony.
Under that massive branch was a woman in her 50s who was found, crushed by the weight.
"She was under branches and they were just pulling her out, and putting her on a stretcher," said Antony.
The woman enjoying the shade suffered major injuries.
"She looked like she was in pain. She was kind of saying some words, and holding her head and her neck."
Fire crews not only rushed her to the hospital, but they also found the driver inside the crushed truck, who also suffered injuries as well.
For those who regularly use the park, it's a terrifying incident.
"A tree of that size would do some big damage," said Antony.
It was day under the trees that quickly turned tragic after a freak accident.
"We walk the park all the time with our dog, with our kids. To think that that could happen, it's a little scary," said Antony.
