Huge Woodland Sinkhole Will Take Days To Fix

WOODLAND (CBS13) – A sinkhole that opened up on a Woodland street on Saturday is now a much bigger problem that will take days to fix.

The sinkhole started out at the size of a traffic cone but has grown almost the width of the lane on Branigan Avenue.

The sinkhole is so large, the city has had to hire outside help to bring in equipment to fix it.

Public works crews say an underground sewer pipe broke causing groundwater and dirt to leak into the broken pipe.

Eventually, the ground underneath the asphalt gave way.

Because the dirt is so unstable, crews actually have to widen the hole before they can fix it.

Crews plan to fix the broken pipe today and fill the hole in with gravel.

They plan to repave the road and have it back open by Thursday.
