Historic Marshall School In Sacramento Could Have Bright Future

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) The fate of an historic Midtown Sacramento elementary school has been up in the air for years, but now the school board says it's ready to make a decision on the school's future.

Built in 1903, those who live near Marshall School say it's been left to go into disrepair.

It started as an elementary school, but was closed in the 1970s after not being able to meet building standards. Renovated in the 1980s, it was used as an adult education, then briefly as a Montessori school.

Neighbors say there have been interested buyers, but believe the school district has dropped the ball. They want it brought back to life and are open to a variety of uses.

The school district admits it hasn't been a top priority, saying as it's weathered cuts, it hasn't had the resources to do anything.

Residents are eager for something to be done, but they say the majestic school building must stay.

The school board says it is now ready to make a decision on Marshall's future, and say it's open to any and all ideas from neighbors at a meeting set for Tuesday at Washington Elementary.
