High School Teacher Arrested On Drug Charges

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- An English teacher at a South Sacramento high school was arrested for illegal possession of drugs during a routine traffic stop, according to police.

Devin Kelish, 34, was pulled over last Thursday for running a stop sign and having an expired registration tag, but when officers searched his car, they allegedly found Oxycontin.

The Burbank High School teacher is also being investigated for allegations of theft, according to Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Laura Peck.

"There is no indication that the possession of that particular controlled substance was for anything other than personal use," Peck said.

A school district spokesperson said officials are taking the allegations seriously and have placed the teacher on administrative leave.

Kelish has taught 10th and 11th grade English at the school since 2004.
