Guide To Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

Just a stone's throw away from Sacramento is an 18,000 acre wildlife refuge called Stone Lakes.  It's one of the few urban refuges in the nation and is home to over 200 species of birds like egrets, herons, pelicans, hawks, vultures, coots, cranes, owls and more. The refuge is part of the Pacific Flyway.  The refuge contains wetlands, riparian forest and grasslands.

Public Access/Blue Heron Trails Project

There is no public access to the refuge right now except for guided tours and special events.
