All Truckee Donner Utility customers lose power due to Hawk Fire in Nevada

All of the greater Truckee area is without power Saturday evening after transmission lines were de-energized due to the Hawk Fire in Nevada, the utility company said.

The Truckee Donner Public Utility District, which provides energy to the region, says some nearly 15,000 customers in the Truckee area are without power. It's unknown when power will be restored.

NV Energy enacted an emergency de-energization of transmission lines because of the Hawk Fire. NV Energy feeds the Tahoe Donner district's transmission line, causing the outage in Truckee.

Thousands of NV Energy customers in the area north of Verdi and Reno are also without power.

The Hawk Fire is burning north of Reno, in the area of Peavine Peak. Crews estimate the fire to be 2,500-3,000 acres and moving northeast.

There were an estimated 1,000 homes under evacuation orders late Saturday afternoon in Nevada, near the California border. Evacuations expanded Saturday night to some communities on the north side of Highway 395 near Silver Lake.

The Sierra County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation warning along the California-Nevada border.

Highway 395 is closed from Parr Boulevard to Red Rock Road.
