Group Home Under Investigation; Suspect's Mother Apologizes
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A south Sacramento group home is now under investigation after a 15-year-old disabled boy was arrested for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old at a nearby park on Tuesday night.
The home operator didn't want to talk to CBS13 on Wednesday when we knocked on the door.
Sacramento police say a caretaker from that home took the suspect to George Sim Park at 6207 Logan St. on Tuesday night. At some point, he allegedly violated a 7-year-old boy. The boy ran and told his parents who immediately then called police.
The state is now looking into the level of care provided at Antipordacerezo Home, which is located at 7455 Rock Creek Way. The home's license is valid but it was cited in 2009 for three infractions.
The suspect's mom says he has severe mental problems and should have been supervised around the clock.
"He's supposed to be supervised at all times," Heaven Richie. "One-on-one, 24-hour- a-day, seven-day-a-week care so that he would be supervised for his own safety as well as the safety of other children."
Richie gave up custody of her son because of drug problems and took the blame for Tuesday's incident. "I'm very sorry for what my son did," she said.
Her son is now in police custody. He faces a sexual assault charge.
