Group Gathers At Calif. Capitol After News Of Bin Laden's Death
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A group of Sacramento residents gathered at the California Capitol late Sunday night after the news that 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden died in a firefight with American troops in Pakistan.
By 11:00 p.m., a few dozen jubilant people had begun celebrating the death of the Al Qaeda leader, waving flags and shouting patriotic cheers.
Early reports indicate that a group of Navy SEALs in attack helicopters landed at a mansion near the Pakistan capital city, coming under fire from guards with rocket-propelled grenades.
Bin Laden was shot in the head during the ensuing gun battle and his body was recovered by the elite military unit. No American casualties were reported.
In a dramatic announcement from the White House on Sunday, President Barack Obama said he had personally ordered the military raid and said "Justice has been done."
