Former Teacher Appears In Court On Sex Assault Charges

MODESTO (CBS13) – A former teacher who left his wife and kids to live with one of his students faced a judge Tuesday.

James Hooker made a brief appearance in a Modesto courtroom with his young girlfriend by his side.

The charges Hooker is facing involve another student who claims Hooker sexually assaulted her 14 years ago.

Tuesday, Hooker's attorney asked for more time to review evidence and also if he could represent Hooker in future hearings so the former teacher would not have to come to court.

The judge agreed to that request.

Meanwhile, Jordan Powers, his student girlfriend, has been by his side for the last two hearings.

His next court date is July 17.
