STOCKTON — A former Stockton police sergeant was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to sexual assault and assault charges involving four victims, prosecutors said.

Nicholas Bloed must also register as a sex offender for a minimum of 20 years, the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office said.

Bloed, who was a 14-year veteran of the department, pleaded guilty in March to two counts of oral copulation by threat of arrest and two counts of assault by an officer under color of authority.

The district attorney's office said California's Three Strikes Law classifies the two oral copulation convictions as serious strikes, meaning Bloed now has two strikes on his record.

"Nicholas Bloed's reprehensible abuse of authority as a law enforcement officer is a grotesque betrayal of the public's trust and the principles of justice." San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said. "This 8-year prison sentence and mandatory sex offender registration serve as an irrefutable warning: those who exploit their power to prey on others will face severe consequences. We stand with the victims, ensuring their courage drives our pursuit of justice."
