Erotic Novel Raises Sales In Sacramento Adult Stores

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It's the book that's whipping up quite the frenzy, as in a wild new interest in sex toys.

You name it, they want it, from whips and chains to blindfolds and handcuffs.

If it's on the pages of "Fifty Shades of Grey," the number one best selling book series, some want it in their bedroom.

This adult erotica, heavy on bondage and S&M, is not only turning heads at some Sacramento area sex shops, it's helping them turn a profit.

Sales are up at Kiss N Tell on Arden.

"I'd say at least 15 percent," said Stephanie Craig, Kiss N Tell.

They sell the book, and then sell the items the characters in the book use.

"With the book, we'll get a lot of giggles when they're reading passages; and then, they'll look over and say, 'well where is this?" said Craig. "And, we'll point them in the right direction."

At The G Spot in midtown, the book's popularity has become their own little stimulus package.

They've had to re-order, and then re-order again. A lot of the items were mostly in the restraint category.

Some customers say it's about time the formerly sexually shy crowd is joining in.

"I think it's a pretty good thing, people can come out bring their fantasies out and enjoy themselves," said one customer.

"And it's not taboo," said another customer. "It's basically intimacy and it's bringing couples together."

And it's all thanks to a book that's turning heads so fast that it's causing some serious whiplash.
