Elk Grove Man Found Guilty Of Killing Dog Found On Barbecue

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — An Elk Grove man was found guilty of abusing a dog that investigators found on a barbecue.

Jesse Tom faces a maximum sentence of nearly seven years after his conviction.

Investigators say Tom had stuffed a small dog into the bottom of a barbecue kettle. By the appearance of the scene, officers say Tom had planned to cook the dog. Briquettes were stacked on the dog and cooking oil was poured on its remains.

Police came to the house after reports of an animal in distress. When they found what had happened, Tom ran away, hopping several fences through neighboring yards.

He's scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 27.
