Elk Grove City Council To Begin Discussing New Soccer Stadium In Wednesday's Meeting

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Elk Grove city council will discuss plans to build a professional soccer stadium and some tournament fields at Wednesday night's meeting. It will be the first time the city council will have discussed stadium since it was announced.

According to a press release issued Tuesday, the proposed sports facility will be built on 120 acres near the Elk Grove Promenade mall. A consultant will deliver a report at the meeting that will outline the cost and economic benefits of the stadium, and will gauge public interest on the project.

In December 2011, Northern California Soccer, a professional soccer ownership group headed by former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, signed an exclusive agreement with the city of Elk Grove to set the stage for the franchise and stadium plan.

The stadium is expected to cost around $100 million.
