Elizabeth Taylor Jewels On Display In Auburn
AUBURN (CBS13) - If you've ever wanted to see -- or even wear -- jewelry that belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, now's your chance.
Some of her prized collection is on display in Auburn at the Golden Swann Jewelers.
Items like an 18-karat bracelet with enamel make even an adult woman feel like a little girl playing dress up.
"It's been Grand Central Station here," store owner Margareta Swann said on Wednesay. "It's so fun to watch."
And for customers such as Ginny Blair, to try on jewelry once worn by the legendary actress is quite a thrill.
"I love the $57,000 bracelet," she said. "I think my husband should buy it for me. However, I would have to give up probably a house, a car."
The Singer Company bought the items at auction before offering the precious jewels to Swann to display at her Auburn store.
"I said of course, is the pope Catholic? Yes I will," she said.
There's a 14-karat gold bracelet for $35,000. If you want to pair it with the matching earnings, they go for $35,000.
"You better have big ear lobes to wear them," Swann said.
There are also items for men, including a watch worn by none other than John Wayne where all the numbers are 5.
"It's 5 all the way around and that means 5, we can have a cocktail," Swann said.
Also for show is a wristwatch that was a gift to Tony Curtis, items worn by Mia Farrow and a ruby necklace owned by Bette Midler.
Swann says a lot of these high-value items sell.
"We are known for it," she said. "We have the clients for it."
Time is running out, though. The items will be picked up on Thursday.
