El Dorado County Deputies Save Elderly Woman After Rain Caves In Roof

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) – Deputies rescued an 80-year-old woman from her caved in home and set her up in a motel.

"They didn't think they would be able to repair it but they said, 'We'll find you a place to sleep,'" Valerie Streight said.

It happened Friday night after heavy rainfall.

"It was 1:30 in the morning and there was this terrible crash and I thought oh my gosh someone's knocked the window out," she said.

That crashing sound was actually her roof.

"My cat was terrified, my dog was terrified," she said.

Streight said her trailer was built in the '60s and there's no way to repair it.

"The rain has come through and it's flooded in there, so she just can't, I just can't see her living in that," said her dear friend Cynthia Jimenez.

With the wicked weather pouring in, came two Sheriff deputies.

"They were so nice," she said.

But the motel is only temporary. Valerie now needs a place to live.

"It's breaking my heart because I have everything in there," Streight said

Her friend can't imagine her leaving Wagon Wheel Park.

"She got me back here and she's always been with me. We're like two peas in a pod," she said.

Streight's No. 1 concern is finding a place that allows pets. With tight funds and no trailer, Valerie may be forced to move to a facility in Sacramento.

"I haven't shared anything with anyone for 16 years you see, so that's going to be a little difficult," she said.

Beloved friends say it's important Valerie finds a good home.

"It's going to be hard, but it's good because she'll get somewhere where she can be better," Jimenez said.
