Documentary Focuses On 'Worst In Show'
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A documentary focusing on the World's Ugliest Dog contest held its local premiere Saturday, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the production behind the Petaluma event that is about more than just an animal pageant.
Several of the four-legged stars of "Worst In Show" were on hand at the Sacramento premiere to pose for pictures with fans and help raise money for the Sacramento SPCA.
Many of the top placing contestants in the Ugliest Dog are missing teeth, hair, or have other strange features that make them
"I think the hook is that people are turned on by the grotesque," said co-director John Beck. "At some point we hook them with this heartwarming tale of animal rescue which we weren't even expecting."
A lot of participants in the "ugly dog circuit" are proponents of animal rescue and try to help animals in need whenever possible, said John Adler, one of the dog owners featured in the movie.
