Dixon High Parents Upset Over Prom Ban

DIXON (CBS13) - Dixon High parents are demanding answers and asking tough questions.

And in the hot seat are the school's principal, a district board member, and the superintendent, who also happens to be a dad to one of the 35 students barred from this weekend's prom.

"I'm sorry that Saturday night happened," said Superintendent Gerry Nolan.

His apology didn't stop parents from getting a little heated at times. First they questioned whether the principal's "sniff test" of the alleged water bottle with booze was enough, then they used his own school dance policy against him, which says students suspected of drinking will be given a breathalyzer test.

However, that night, the principal didn't.
Explaining Wednesday night, he didn't have reasonable doubt to test the entire group.

Tuesday the banned students banded together in protest demanding an apology.

"I don't think it was right to punish 35 kids, especially the kids that were sober," said John Nolan, the superintendent's son.

Wednesday, parents who agreed came armed with questions. Some say they're leaving with answers they're just not happy with.

"My daughter doesn't drink," said parent Kerry Fogel. "She did not drink and why don't you have something in place that she can prove that right away and get in."
