Detectives Pinpoint Gun That Killed Mother In Barbershop Shootout

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) --  One day after six people are charged in the barbershop shootout, investigators have released information about whose gun they say killed an innocent mother.

"This case is not over, we still have a lot of work to do," says Det. Tony Turnbull, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

But what detectives say they do know is that brothers, Louis and Lonnie Mitchell, were inside the barbershop and were the intended targets.

"Someone had communicated with them that the Mitchell brothers were at the barber shop at the present time," says Det. Turnbull.

According to the lead detective, the Mitchell's were armed as well and began a massive firefight with Marvion Barksdale who was killed, his cousin Charles Barksdale and three of their friends.

"They knew what they were walking into and they were heavily armed," Turnbull explains.

Upwards of 30 rounds were fired, and despite all being charged with the death of mother Monique Nelson, forensics put the fatal shot coming from the gun of James Carney.

While Carney is behind bars, a manhunt is on for suspect Larry Jones, who is considered to be armed and dangerous.

"We have our major crimes bureau looking for him right now," Turnbull said.

A young mother killed while shielding her son, the collateral damage of an apparent gang war, but the question for investigators is: Could there be anymore shooters?

"I can only answer that by saying there is a possibility," said Turnbull.
