Davis Extends Bar Moratorium For A Full Year After Deadly Nightclub Stabbing

DAVIS (CBS13) — Davis extended a moratorium on new bars and nightclubs for a full year less than two months after a deadly stabbing at a downtown restaurant.
Carol Holdstock is one of a growing number of residents in favor of tougher restrictions on downtown Davis establishments.
"I think it's good there's a little bit of control over the degree of drinking, how many people are in a place, and what goes on," she said.
The Davis City Council placed a moratorium on new restaurants and clubs that served alcohol last month and expanded it 10 months.
A 23-year-old man died in September after he was stabbed at KetMoRee, and more recently, a UC Davis woman who met three men at a bar was taken by them to a park and sexually assaulted.
City officials did grant one new business application after the owners of Blondie's, which is set to open here, appealed. This after the owners agreed to a large number of strict conditions.
The mayor says the extended moratorium will give the council more time to think about safety measures, including required security and hours of operation.
