Cousins Traveling With Kings To Memphis

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A day after he was told to stay home from Power Balance Pavilion for the Kings' New Year's game against New Orleans, DeMarcus Cousins did travel with the team Monday when it left for Memphis.

Coach Paul Westphal said Cousins demanded a trade Sunday and was sent home. There was no media availability on Monday and so it was unclear if Cousins will play Tuesday in Memphis. The Kings also play at Denver Wednesday before coming home to face Milwaukee on Thursday.

Cousins' behavior didn't sit well with one Kings fan.

"Who the heck is this guy," Lindsay Shoemaker said. "I'm not going to be a fan of him. As a first or second-year player, I don't think you have the right to say 'I don't want to play here.' It's a little prima donna-ish and the big thing is you're going to lose fans."

"if people like Demarcus cousins are going to be that way, I'll never go to another Kings game."

Cousins' agent said his client never asked him, but Westphal said it happened multiple times.

"You can only have so many chances before something is done and something had to be done," Westphal said Sunday before the game.

Sunday night, Cousins sent out this message on his twitter account: "dnt listen to everything u hear ...smh (shaking my head) glad to knw who the real fans are tho ...thanks"

Monday morning, Kings players left the practice facility for the airport. We didn't see cousins but were told he was on the flight to Memphis.

Radio personality Carmichael Dave of 1140 the Fan says he expects cousins back in the lineup and that this whole thing could blow over in a long season.

"This team wins two, three in a row, everyone is back," he said. "Cousins comes back and everyone loves a comeback story. He comes back and throws down 20 and 15 a couple games in a row and everything is fine."
