Cancer-Stricken Girl Losing Battle With Illness

ROCKLIN, Calif. (CBS13) -- A girl who has been suffering from a rare disease for most of her life -- but has inspired many with her spirit -- is nearing the end of her battle with sickness.

Doctors say they have run out of ways to prolong the life of 11-year-old Mariah Morris, who has undergone half a dozen surgeries and four different types of chemotherapy since she was diagnosed with an unusual form of cancer when she was 3.

CBS13 first reported on Mariah when her mother's car was stolen along with the girl's wheelchair on New Year's Eve. The girl responded with gratitude when several CBS13 viewers stepped up to donate a new one.

"I like it, it's better than the other one," she said.

Mariah's mother, Angela, invited CBS13 to a fundraiser in Rocklin on Wednesday.

"This event is to raise funeral funds for my daughter, even though she has not passed yet," Angela said, who also hopes to take her daughter on one last vacation.

Mariah's treatments are proving less effective and she's only operating on one lung.

Anyone wishing to donate to the family can visit any Wells Fargo branch and give to the "Mariah Morris Foundation," account #7580740178.
