Call For Unity: Rally In Support Of Muslim Community Held At Capitol

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – On the north steps of the Capitol a huge crowd gathered, listening to speakers condemn the hate-filled rhetoric of some politicians like GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump when it comes to the Muslim community.

The message was one of peace and unity, with some people holding up signs saying "standing on the side of love."

Others said they want to be a part of the alternative message.

"We're the home of the brave, time to be brave, and stand up for each other, stand together," said Lincoln resident Joan Lacktis. "Stand for peace and love, which I believe most Muslims do."

Sacramento city leaders also made their voices heard among the crowd.

"If it weren't for immigrants, we wouldn't have the diversity in Sacramento," said City Councilmember Eric Guerra.

Since the attacks in San Bernardino, Muslim communities across the nation including have seen major backlash

"There's all kind of people we can go after, but we decide to go after an entire community," Lacktis said. "And I can't stand by, I'm willing to drive from Lincoln to say no to that."

Saturday's rally was in hopes of educating and spreading the word so more people can get involved.
