40 Cars Burned In SoCal Carport Fire; Investigation Underway

WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say a fire in a Whittier carport has burned 40 cars.

County fire Inspector Quvondo Johnson says 21 cars were destroyed and 19 damaged.

He says the blaze was reported at around 4:40 a.m. Wednesday in a carport near an apartment complex. It was doused in about 40 minutes.

One firefighter received a minor injury.

Johnson says some apartment dwellers were briefly evacuated but the flames didn't reach the units.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
