"Fathers & Daughters" Movie Crew Makes Big Donation To Local Non-Profit

BRADDOCK (KDKA) -- Russell Crowe has wrapped up another movie shoot in Pittsburgh.

He and the crew were shooting scenes for a film called "Fathers and Daughters." When they left town, they donated the movie props to the "Free Store" in Braddock.

"My understanding is that it usually just goes into a storage closet, once the film is wrapped up," says Braddock activist Gisele Fetterman. "But in this case, they're doing something different, actually giving it back to people who need it."

The wife of Braddock Mayor John Fetterman says the movie props are being given away at the old Superior Motors building on Braddock Avenue, until 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

It's the fifth local movie production to give back to the community.

"'Out of the Furnace' was a steelworker, kind of blue-collar film, so there was a lot of flannel," she adds. "This film, there was less clothing, but the furniture was like the most interesting part. The miscellaneous chairs and desks."

Meanwhile, volunteers sort through multiple boxes of donations from a pair of local children's clothing shops.

Anything that's left over will go to the "Free Store," just a few blocks down Braddock Avenue. The "store" actually consists of three cargo containers. And as the name would suggest, everything is free.

"If we can make somebody's day a little bit easier, that's what we want to do," Gisele Fetterman explains.

Besides, Russell Crowe sat in one of those chairs. Maybe.

"I think it's just fun," Gisele says. "You know, if someone needed a chair, and this chair happens to have been Russell Crowe's in the film, I think it's a nice marriage. It makes a nice ending for that piece of furniture."
