PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Gov. Tom Corbett has had a consistently low approval rating the last four years.
KDKA's Paul Martino: "How do you feel about this race? Do you think you are running ahead or do you think you are the underdog?"
Gov. Corbett: "Well, I don't think one way or the other. We have a record to run on. And I think it's a very good record."
A Quinnipiac University poll from February shows Gov. Corbett's approval rating at just 36 percent. Anything under 40 percent is considered a huge danger sign for an incumbent.
That same poll showed Gov. Corbett's Democratic opponent, Tom Wolf, leading 52 to 33 percent. And that came before Wolf won the Democratic nomination.
Gov. Corbett maintains he's confident.
"There's only one approval rating that matters and that's in November," said Gov. Corbett. "We're going to be getting our message out there."
The governor picked up a key endorsement Thursday from the Pennsylvania Laborers Union.
It's a group that endorsed Gov. Corbett's opponent four years ago. But they're going with the governor this time because of his transportation bill.
"You're going to see a lot of people going to work, but you're also going to see safer roads and safer bridges over the next five years," Gov. Corbett said.
Meanwhile, Gov. Corbett dodged KDKA cameras on Wednesday when asked about gay marriage. On Thursday, he spoke with us, but wasn't about to reveal his opinions on the divisive subject.
Martino: "Do you believe gay and lesbian couples should have the same rights the rest of us have?"
Gov. Corbett: "Well, uh, we're only going to talk about the bill, the lawsuit yesterday. Clearly, the court issued an order."
Gov. Corbett's refusal to talk about the subject comes one day after the floodgate opened in Allegheny County and gay and lesbian couples flocked to get their marriage licenses.
"I always said that we would follow whatever the court's order was," Gov. Corbett said. "I made a decision not to appeal the court's decision. My personal beliefs are going to be my personal beliefs."
