CBS' LaCanfora: Steelers Likely To End Up With Woodley, Not Worilds
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- CBS NFL insider Jason LaCanfora joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Tuesday to offer the latest news and notes from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
In LaCanfora's mind, the Steelers are much more likely to keep LaMarr Woodley than they are to keep Jason Worilds.
"I don't think they're cutting Woodley," LaCanfora said. "I think there's going to be a real strong market for Jason Worilds. I don't think it's limited to 3-4 teams, either. I think there are some 4-3 teams that are intrigued by him as well. I think he's gone, I do. I think they'll have a hard time retaining him."
He's not entirely sure that Brett Keisel will sign a new deal, either.
"There could be some other contending teams out there that say, you know what, this guy- leadership, everything else- you know, for one year, two years, let's take a shot on him, see if he can help us get over the top," LaCanfora said.
He does, however, expect Troy Polamalu to take a pay cut and return.
"I think Troy comes back, he takes a pay cut and comes back for less money," LaCanfora said.
He told the guys that the Steelers are doing some shopping for free agents that can fill some of the other secondary positions.
"They've been talking to a lot of corners and a lot of safeties," LaCanfora said. "But the money's going to have to be right. That's going to be one where they probably have to tell three or four guys, 'Hey, we really, really like you,' and then you sit through the first eight days and ten days of free agency and see which one of them is still on the market."
As for Pitt's Aaron Donald, LaCanfora sees him as a potential first round pick, but cautions against making too much of what we see at the Combine.
"I think he has an opportunity to, yeah," LaCanfora said. "There's so much that has to happen from an NFL standpoint before we even get to a point where these kids are remotely close to getting on somebody's roster."
LaCanfora says that later evaluations often carry more weight.
"Anytime you're put in a position to reveal yourself for better or worse to these teams, it matters," LaCanfora said. "I don't believe it matters as much as the film and I don't believe, you know, from a personality standpoint that the little bit of time they get with these kids when they're doing eight interviews a night and they're pretty much up for 20 hours a day- you know, I don't think that's going to resonate as much as when you have them in your building."
