Brentwood Education Association Authorizes Strike

BRENTWOOD (KDKA) -- Teachers in Brentwood could soon hit the picket lines.

The Brentwood Education Association voted 70-8 to authorize a strike on Wednesday.

State law requires teachers to give districts a 48-hour notice before beginning a strike.

"We asked our members for a strike authorization because the School Board has repeatedly demonstrated that it is more interested in delay tactics than a fair and equitable agreement," BEA President Mary Agnes Galvin said.  "These tactics hurt the educational environment for our students and the teachers."

Galvin added that she hopes the strike can be avoided, so the teachers can focus on educating children.
