Some images just seem to need more explanation than others.
In our weekly series, we share images from the news that piqued our curiosity and raised questions.
In this photo, it's obvious the person is wearing a gas mask, but in a weird way it also looks elephant-like too. The eyes are spooky and the whole thing just looks surreal though.
2015 Venice Biennale - Irina Nakhova
A visitor looks at a creation by Russian artist Irina Nakhova at the Russia's pavilion during the 56th International Art Exhibition (Biennale d'Arte) titled 'All the Worlds Futures' in Venice, May 5, 2015.
Nakhova is the first woman to represent Russia in a solo pavilion at the biennale.
We'd love to know what this art installation is called and what it's about, but none of the photographers explained. Guess it just requires visiting Venice to find out.
What am I seeing?
Driving on water...WOW!
Lake Mead
James Spear drives his German built 1964 Amiphicar onto a boat launch and out of Lake Mead in Nevada as he takes his mother and cousins for a drive on the lake, May 6, 2015.
What's an amphicar? And why aren't more people using them? They look fun. Turns out it's an amphibious car designed by Hanns Trippel to be marketed and sold in the U.S. Perhaps the fact that "Time" called it one of the 50 worst cars of all time is why more people don't have them.
The standard line is it was 'both a lousy car and a lousy boat'. That top speed of 7 mph does have drawbacks. The bigger drawback may be that it isn't known to be very watertight. Since the water levels are so low in Lake Mead, right now, maybe that's not much of a concern.

Lettuce head? It's an interesting fashion statement.
Reminds us a little of one of those cartoon character from "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" but you have to be a certain age to know what we're talking about.

Demonstrators stand at a barricade in the Musaga neighbourhood of Bujumbura, Burundi, May 5, 2015 as deadly protests continue.
Guess in the previous photos it was a question of using whatever was at hand even if it's a giant leaf to make yourself a protective mask. It was certainly more colorful than what these guys are wearing.
What am I seeing?
There seems to be an interesting red dude (who looks like Elmo) in this entourage who kind of takes attention away from the speaker. Could be we're just easily distracted, though, since no one else seems to be paying him any attention.
It's a politics thing
Two activists stand outside the polling station where Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron is due to vote in Spelsbury, central England, Britain, May 7, 2015.
See? Politics isn't just strange in America. Turns out that in the U.K. there's a Give Me Back Elmo Party led by Bobby Smith. Elmo, otherwise known as Smith, was opposing Cameron in the Whitey election for a parliamentary seat. The party campaigns for equal custody for fathers to their children. Smith chose the name Give Me Back Elmo because he used to call his two children Elmo before he lost contact with them in 2011. It all makes perfect sense now.
The speaker in the previous photo was British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Why is this person sitting in a cage?
Confinement for the mentally ill
Zhao Xiaoyang smokes inside a cage at his home in Fangjia village, Zhejiang province in China, May 6, 2015. Zhao has been living in a cage after he was diagnosed with a mental disorder in 2001 and beat a man to death. For years, his mother has cooked him meals and taken care of his personal hygiene.
Very disturbing situation on so many levels.
What am I seeing?
It's really hard to know what this little yellow thing is, but it's not very pretty.
Ivory Coast gold mine
Prospectors search for gold at a gold mine near the village of Gamina, in western Ivory Coast, March 18, 2015.
OOOH...that not so pretty thing takes on a whole new value in our eyes.
What am I seeing?
He sort of looks like a praying monk, but we're not entirely sure what to make of the face on the back of his head.
What am I seeing?
People take pictures of hair artist and barber Nariko, 27, and his work on customer Luiz Fernadez, 15, which is an image of Barcelona's Neymar and his team's badge shaved on his head. Fernadez got the crazy shave before the Champions League semifinal first leg soccer match between Barcelona and Bayern Munich at a barbershop in Sao Vicente in Sao Paulo state, May 6, 2015.
No accounting for crazy sports fans.
What am I seeing?
Freaky. Sort of a Jekyll and Hyde thing? We like it.
"Human Bodies"
A visitor looks at a plastinated human body during a press preview prior to the opening of the "Human Bodies" exhibition in Oviedo, Spain, May 7, 2015.
Gotta love the word 'plastinated'. This is the show for you if you like weird-looking, plastinated bodies.
What am I seeing?
That is one giant rose on her head. It certainly makes one feel like it's spring.
The Kentucky Derby
Oh, it's those racing folks...that explains everything.
Skip Koepnick of Wyoming, Michigan wears a festive hat prior to the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, May 3, 2014. Ok, we cheated a little and used last year's photos, but you get the idea...and they do this every year.
