Showtime In Paris
Christian Lacroix
Christian Lacroix, known for exuberant designs in bright colors, feels like he's back in step with the times at last. "Since the last two seasons or so, thanks to the revival of the 1980s, the return of prints, the return of more ornate things, the era is once again favorable," Lacroix told The Associated Press. Here, models pass on the runway during the Lacroix Spring/Summer 2007 on Jan. 23, 2007.

Karl Lagerfeld
The market for haute couture has shrunk to a few very rich women of a certain age, but Karl Lagerfeld works for a younger crowd. His efforts are paying off, based on this crowd shot. The front row at his Jan. 23, 2007, show includes, from left, actress Joana Preiss, journalist Mademoiselle Agnes, Sean Lennon, French Vogue editor Corine Roitfeld, director Sofia Coppola and actress Dianne Kruger.

For his latest collection, Lagerfeld drew inspiration from '60s icon Edie Sedgwick, pairing his iconic tweed jackets with shiny black tights and two-tone shoes. At left, a model shows an outfit during Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel's Spring/Summer 2007 fashion show in Paris on Jan. 23, 2007.

For reasons impossible to explain, Paris' top fashion designers often indulge in pointless gimmicks, like tying ragged scraps of net around the eyes of runway models. Here, one of Karl Lagerfeld's fashion victims walks the runway at the Chanel Spring/Summer 2007 show in Paris on Jan. 23, 2007.

Paris Fashion Week for Spring/Summer takes place under the city's gray January skies, but that doesn't keep celebrities out of the mix. Here Sigourney Weaver leaves the Grand Palais after the Chanel show on Jan. 23, 2007.
Valentino
Italian designer Valentino paid homage to his own legend at his show during Paris Fashion Week with a collection that recalled the 1968 fashion show in Florence's Pitti Palace, which made him world famous. Valentino stuck to white in his latest fashion collection. "It's romantic. It's glamorous and it is full of femininity, that's it," the designer told The Associated Press. Here, a model walks the runway during the Spring/Summer 2007 Valentino show in Paris on Jan. 22, 2007.

John Galliano
He's at it again. British designer John Galliano lived up to his reputation for flamboyance by serving up another theatrical show for his Spring/Summer 2007 collection for Christian Dior. At left, a model is shown in a close-up during the designer's show for Paris Fashion Week on Jan. 22, 2007.

It may be tough to imagine any woman actually wearing his designs, but for sheer spectacle Galliano can't be beat. His latest show was a sumptuous display of Oriental splendor drawing on the designer's recent trip to Japan. How do you say, "so, maybe he's got a screw loose" in French? Talented but eccentric designer John Galliano and one of his models acknowledge the public at the end of his Spring Spring/Summer 2007 show in Paris on Jan. 22, 2007.
