Princess Irene of the Netherlands and Carlos HugoPrincess Irene married Carlos Hugo, the Duke of Parma, on April 29, 1964. She converted to Catholicism and married Hugo without the approval of the Dutch States-General and, as a result, lost her claim to the throne (she was second in line after her sister, Beatrix).

Edward, Duke of WindsorEdward never divorced, but his proposal of marriage to Wallis Simpson - who left her second husband to marry him - caused a national crisis that resulted in his abdication as King Edward VIII.
He was given the title His Royal Highness The Duke of Windsor after he abdicated in December 1936.
