October 2006 Vanity Fair Cover - Annie Leibowitz

The photos by Annie Leibowitz of Baby Suri in Vanity Fair were cute. But they weren't on the level of, say, her photo of Whoopi Goldberg in a tub of milk or a naked John Lennon embracing a fully-clothed Yoko Ono. In the next few slides is a look at how some of the world's greatest artists might have handled the assignment.

"Mona Lisa" - Leonardo Da Vinci

No need to decode this famous masterpiece by Leonardo Da Vinci. Katie's smiling because she's holding her cute bambina.

Suri may have had a silent birth, but she is a baby after all ... and babies are known to let out a shriek here and there.

"Portrait Of A Young Peasant" - Van Gogh (1889)

According to Forbes.com, Tom Cruise earned $67 million between June 2005 and June 2006. He's not exactly a peasant (or young), but he might enjoy a stroll in the great outdoors with Suri in tow.

"Woman On A Chair" - Pablo Picasso (1930s)

When it comes to living life to the fullest, Tom Cruise is no match for Pablo Picasso. The legendary Spaniard -- listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the most prolific artist of all time -- fathered four children with three different women, had numerous mistresses, and continued to paint until his death at 91.

"American Gothic" - Grant Wood (1930)

Right now, Suri Cruise is America's most famous baby, so why not reimagine her in the most famous American painting? This oft-parodied work depicts a traditional American farm couple. They probably wouldn't have approved of Suri's parents being unmarried.

"Mailbox" - Willem de Kooning (1947/48)

If jumping up and down on a couch is considered an abstract expression of joy, then it makes sense to do a portrait of Tom Cruise's daughter in the style of Willem de Kooning. The Dutch-born artist is one of the best-known American masters of the post-World War II abstract expressionist movement.

Andy Warhol (1960s)

With the release of Suri Cruise's Vanity Fair photo spread, the little tyke finally has what Warhol would have called her "fifteen minutes of fame." As the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, it's likely she'll be measuring her fame by years, not minutes.
