CBS news Correspondent Peter King was one of four reporters-and the only radio reporter-invited to fly NASA's Gulfstream ll Shuttle Training Aircraft at the Kennedy Space Center.
A Beautiful Sunset
A view of the sky over the Kennedy Space Center.
The STA (Shuttle Training Aircraft) mimics the feel of a shuttle and allows shuttle commanders and pilots to practice landings...as close to the real thing as it gets.
What's It Like?
A shuttle's glide slope is 7 times steeper than that of a commercial jet...and lands at about 225 miles per hour. On the flight deck is astronaut Steve Lindsey, the commander of STS-133.
Back to Earth
Correspondent Peter King returns safely to the ground with lunch intact, so to speak.
