Authorities said 34-year-old Mississippi mayoral candidate Marco McMillian was found dead on the Mississippi River levee on Feb. 27, 2013. McMillian was running for mayor of Clarksdale, a Blues hub where actor and Mississippi native Morgan Freeman co-owns a blues club. His campaign said he may have been the first openly gay man to be a viable candidate for public office in Mississippi. Lawrence Reed, 22, was charged with murder in McMillian's death.
