A manhunt has been launched to find the active duty sailor who has been charged with the stabbing death of his pregnant wife, possibly in front of her young daughter, reports CBS affiliate WBBM. Illinois Police are searching for thirty-one-year-old Eric Gilford who was charged Friday with first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child in the slaying of his estranged wife Kristine Gilford.
As clues regarding the suspect surfaced, authorities turned their search to Fargo, N.D. where Eric Gilford's vehicle was found abandoned in a parking lot. Fargo Police Capt. Tod Dahle says detectives are still working to establish any ties the Illinois man might have to Fargo, but further attempts to locate the suspect have been unsuccessful.
Friends and family of Kristine Gilford have created a Facebook group, "Eric Gilford WANTED," which aims to find the man charged in Kristine's stabbing death, reports The Chicago Tribune. According to police, the victim, who was five months pregnant, was visiting a male friend Wednesday when she was attacked and stabbed several times.
As Kristine Gilford lay dying, friends who arrived on the scene say she identified her 6-foot-4, 210 pound husband as the attacker, says WBBM. Neighbors said Kristine's 4-year-old daughter came running out of the apartment telling them that her mother had been stabbed. "I came in the back door and I encountered the little girl," Dawn Wood told WBBM. "I was freaking out. I was making sure she was OK before I knew about mom, and then she told me about 'Mom was stabbed.'"
If you have any information regarding the potentially dangerous suspect Eric Gilford please alert Villa Park Police at 630-834-7447 or the Fargo Police at 701-235-4493.
