Celebrities may have glamorous lives, but sometimes they have problems just like everyone else. That's particularly true when it comes to getting pregnant.

For couples that cannot conceive on their own, they are increasingly turning to surrogates, a woman who carries their child to term.

In some cases, the surrogate provides the egg, but when medically possible, many couples prefer to create an embryo from their own sperm and egg and implant that into a "gestational carrier."

The process isn't easy and can cost more than $40,000, but for these celebrities it's all worth it.

2011: Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban had nothing but praise for the woman that carried their daughter Faith Margaret early in 2011. "Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret," the couple said in a statement. "No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier."

2010: Chris Daughtry and Deanna Daughtry

American Idol rocker Chris Daughtry thanked God for the birth of his twins late in 2010, but some credit should also go to the surrogate who carried them using sperm and egg from Daughtry and his wife. "Our family is overwhelmed with joy by these two precious gifts from God," Daughtry said on his website. "The babies are both healthy and resting. Thanks to everyone for their love and prayers."

2009: Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

"Sex in the City" celeb Sarah Jessica Parker, 45, and her long time husband Matthew Broderick, 48, turned to a surrogate to give birth to twin girls, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, in 2009.

2007: Dennis Quaid and wife Kimberly

"God has definitely blessed us." That was the reaction of Dennis Quad, 56, and his wife Kimberly when they became proud parents to twins Thomas and Zoe in 2007.

Katey Sagal, 56, was already "Married with Children" when she and husband Kurt Sutter, 45, turned to a surrogate to help them with a new baby girl. The child was born in 2007.

2006: Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance

In 2006, actress Angela Basset got more than her groove back. The now 52-year-old, and her husband, "Closer" star Courtney B. Vance, 50, got two new beautiful babies with the help of a surrogate. According to People, the couple got to watch the C-section delivery.

2003: Joan Lunden and Jeff Konigsberg

Journalist Joan Lunden, 60, and husband, businessman Jeff Konigsberg, were practically pioneers back in 2003, when the couple first used a surrogate to conceive twins. Two years later they were back at it again with another set of twins.

"It's almost like we can't cook the cupcakes in our oven because the oven is broken," she told the New York Times in 2009. "We're going to use the neighbor's oven."
