Celebrity Style 2007
Trend: Hair Jewelry
Speaking of "Atonement," the period drama may also inspire a revival of hair jewelry. The movie's star, Keira Knightley, kept up the look at a screening of the film at the 64th Venice Film Festival on Aug. 29, 2007. Warning to imitators: Keira's elaborate 1930s 'do in the movie is a wig. Nobody wants to do what women did then to get that look.
Trend: The Beehive
Go figure. We made fun of Amy Winehouse's rats-nest hairdo and kabuki-style eyeliner, and then super-chic Paris couturier Karl Lagerfeld went and built an entire couture fashion collection around her look.
Trend: The Bob
Katie Holmes made waves by going straight and short with her hair. Her new look is still creating a commotion on style blogs.
Trend: Size Zero Backlash
Jennifer Love Hewitt bitch-slapped bloggers, figuratively speaking, for making snarky remarks about her figure. She thinks size 2 is plenty skinny enough. "I'm not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image," she said.
Trend: Exit The Bimbo
This is the precise moment that the bimbo look went out of fashion with a loud crash. Britney Spears performs "Gimme More" live on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 9, 2007.
Trend: The Class Act
Young Hollywood has a classy role model in Reese Witherspoon, seen here at the October premiere of her movie "Rendition."
Trend: Too Tattooed
It's hard to believe that the tattoo craze can go on much longer, now that stars like Angelina Jolie show them off on dress-up occasions. Rebellious types are going to have to think up something wilder. (The mind reels.)
Trend: Baggy No More
The baggy pants beloved by rappers and wannabes appear to be shrinking to wearable size. Maybe it's because they're being outlawed in many places. More likely guys are just sick of wearing droopy drawers. Look to Sean Coombs to lead the way to an updated men's style choice.
Trend: The Tomboy Look
Agnyess Deyn's cropped platinum hair and casual chic are being imitated around the U.K. Look for her tomboy style to cross the Atlantic in the year ahead.
Trend: Mommy Chic
So much for maternity wear. Jennifer Lopez is among the many celebrity mom-to-bes who are turning pregnancy into a flamboyant fashion statement.
Trend: The Class Act, Part 2
Pop stars as a rule have not earned high marks for elegance. Just a year ago, it seemed we were supposed to be grateful if they remembered to wear underwear. That seems to be changing as talents like Mary J. Blige glam up for the cameras.
