New "American Idol" judge Ellen DeGeneres is likely to attract as much interest -- and as many headlines - as the roster of new contestants. DeGeneres, who has her own afternoon talk show, will join judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi when the new season begins in late January.

Ricky Gervais
The Golden Globes, the first of Hollywood's big awards shows, takes place Jan. 17, and for the first time in several years, it will have a host. British comedian Ricky Gervais has been chosen for the honor, largely on the basis of his hilarious performance as a presenter at last year's show. Gervais also will provide one of the voices for an HBO animated comedy series that debuts Feb. 19.

George Clooney
The star of the highly acclaimed film "Up in the Air" is likely to make a lot of red-carpet appearances this awards seaon as he accepts honors for the Jason Reitman film and his role in it. Clooney has been nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG award and has won Best Actor awards this year from the National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle.

Gabourey Sidibe
If George Clooney represents old Hollywood, actress Gabourey Sidibe represents the new breed of star. "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" is the first film for the 26-year-old Brooklyn resident, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and an Independent Spirit Award for her turn in the title role.

The Who
Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey will lead their band The Who in a half-time performance during Super Bowl XLIV on Feb. 7 in Miami. They are the surviving members of the original British group that emerged in the 1960s with 17 Top 10 albums and a rock opera, "Tommy." Three of their songs have been chosen as themes for the "CSI" TV franchise.

Charlie Sheen
Expect to seek more of actor Charlie Sheen and his wife, Brooke Mueller, in 2010. Sheen is due in court Feb. 8 on allegations stemming from a Christmas Day domestic dispute at a home the two were sharing in Aspen, Colo. Mueller accused him of threatening her with a knife but appears to be backing down on some of the charges. Sheen's defense has included references to what he said is his wife's problems with alcohol.

The 20th season of "Survivor" begins Feb. 11 with a special "Heroes vs. Villains" game. The names of the contestants -- drawn from the previous 19 seasons - are a secret, but Jeff Probst will continue to host this granddaddy of all reality shows. You probably will be seeing a lot him as he marks the big 2-0 and promotes the latest season.

Country megastar Taylor Swift, who picked up most of 2009's music awards, is going into the Grammys with eight nominations. She will be going head--to-head with Beyonce, the nominations leader, in several key categories including album of the year ("Fearless") as well as song and record of the year ("You Belong With Me").

Shaun White
Snowboarder Shaun White, who won a gold medal in the Men's Halfpipe at the 2006 Olympics in Torino, is on track to bring home more gold from the Vancouver Olympics in February. He's already scored an impressive victory at the Vancouver site of the event, winning the FIS World Cup Men's Halfpipe event there last February.

Lindsey Vonn
Olympics fans will be waiting to see whether an injured hand will dash the hopes of downhill ski racer Lindsey Vonn. A member of the 2002 Olympics ski team, Vonn was injured during the Torino games in 2006. She has won the overall World Cup for the past two seasons and is favored to take home a medal in in the speed events for the Vancouver Olympics.

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin
"It's Complicated" co-stars Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will be sharing hosting duties at the 82nd Academy Awards, on March 7. Martin has hosted the show twice before, and has appeared as a presenter. Baldwin is a first-time Oscar host, but was a co-presenter in 2004. An Emmy and Golden Globe winner for "30 Rock," Baldwin also has been mentioned as a possible Oscar nominee in 2010.

The British rock group Genesis, with frontman Phil Collins, shown, is among the musicians to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 15 in New York. Also to be inducted are ABBA, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and The Stooges. Recipients of the Ahmet Ertegun Award will be David Geffen and songwriters Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Elle Greenwich, Jeff Barry, Jesse Stone, Mort Shuman and Otis Blackwell.

Hollywood bad boy Mickey Rourke, who won a raft of acting awards last year for his comeback turn in "The Wrestler," will be back on the big screen in May as the villain in "Iron Man 2." One of the summer's expected blockbusters, "Iron Man 2" stars Robert Downey Jr., who is currently making the talk-show circuit to promote his movie "Sherlock Holmes."

A summer wedding is in the works for former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and her fiance, Marc Mezvinsky, an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Chelsea became engaged at Thanksgving. The two met in Washington as teenagers and both attended Stanford University.
