Some regions are promoted as havens for retirees, while others are hyped as hotspots for singles. Now, the folks at the real estate blog Movoto.com have compiled the best places for nerds to live.
How do you come up with a list like that? Movoto tracked annual comic book, video game, anime and sci-fi conventions. They also compared the number of residents per comic book store, video game store, computer store, book store, LARPing group and science museum. They even took into consideration the distance to the nearest Renaissance faire. So which towns made the cut?
Coming it at No. 10, Denver is a great place for nerds. Conventions like Nan Desu Kan make Denver a perfect spot to be for a cosplaying nerd.
9. San Jose, Calif.
You'll find plenty of stores to buy computer parts at for your next LAN party in San Jose.
Known for its beaches, Miami also is a hotbed for comic book stores, which is key for nerds looking for a hangout.
7. Las Vegas
In terms of video game stores per population, Las Vegas is second only to Atlanta.
Group tabletop games such as Dungeons and Dragons are very common in in Boston, making it No. 6 on the list.
The Science Museum of Minnesota, which serves the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, has plenty of stuff that nerds adore, especially robots.
4. Sacramento, Calif.
Live Action Role Playing, or LARPing, is a very big deal in Sacramento, where boffers are king (and queen).
Science Fiction fans unite! Seattle has more places that sell sci-fi books than almost anywhere else.
2. Portland, Ore.
The great green landscape that makes Portland a great place for outdoor enthusiasts also makes it a perfect place to hold Renaissance fairs.
Coming in as the best place to live the nerd lifestyle is Atlanta. Sci-fi, comic book and video game fiends will find friends at the many conventions this city hosts.
