Zsa Zsa Said To Be Weak But Talking

Zsa Zsa Gabor, who last week was reported to be in a coma, is said to be doing a little better.

The 85-year-old actress is listed in serious condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she is expected to remain for another week.

That's according to her husband, Frederic von Anhalt.

"I talked to her, she whispered, but you can hardly understand her," von Anhalt said Friday night. "She looks at me and she recognizes me."

Von Anhalt says Gabor suffered broken bones in a Nov. 27th car crash and received stitches to her head, hands, arms and legs. She is expected to undergo surgery to help broken bones in her arms heal, according to her husband.

Gabor was a passenger in the front seat of a car that struck a light pole on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police have said that the car was driven by her hairdresser, who was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

There have been conflicting reports about her condition, and Constance Francesca Hilton - Gabor's daughter - has denied reports that her mother was in a coma.

The hospital, while issuing condition reports, has released no other details.

Gabor, who has been a presence on the celebrity circuit for decades, emigrated to the U.S. around the time of World War II with her sisters Eva and Magda and their mother, Jolie.

Eva, who had starred in the television show "Green Acres," died in 1995 at age 74. Mother Jolie died in April 1997 at age 97 and Magda, who lived largely out of the spotlight, died in June 1997 at age 78.

Zsa Zsa's best-known film credits include: John Huston's Toulouse-Lautrec biopic, "Moulin Rouge," 1952; "The Story of Three Loves," 1953; "The Girl in the Kremlin," 1957; and Orson Welles' classic "Touch of Evil," 1958. She was also in B movies such as "Queen of Outer Space," 1958, and "Picture Mommy Dead," 1966, and more recently kidded around with David Letterman in videotaped segment on his show.

Zsa Zsa has always been notorious for her fondness for furs, jewelry and her many marriages - eight - to husbands including hotel magnate Conrad Hilton and Oscar-winning actor George Sanders.

But she hit it lucky with von Anhalt, to whom she has been married since 1986.

In 1989, Gabor picked up a little more notoriety, when she was arrested for slapping a Beverly Hills police officer. She was subsequently sentenced to 72 hours in jail and 120 hours of community service at a women's shelter.
